John Sumpter heads a research group focused on chemicals in the aquatic environment, and their effects on fish. He discovered endocrine disruption in fish caused by effluents from sewage treatment works. The recent focus now includes impact from other human pharmaceuticals present in rivers such as beta-blockers, steroid hormones, and anti-cancer drugs. John recently received an OBE for increasing global awareness on the consequence of environmental pollution and lives locally.
