The U10 AFC Henley Hurricanes were beaten 4-0 away at top of the table Eversley Rangers.
In what was a tough match the Hurricanes found themselves up against a very strong Eversley team but kept battling right up to the final whistle.
Captain and Man of Match Tom Bonser encapsulated the spirit of the side as he battled away tenaciously at the heart of the visitors’ defence.
The first quarter was a tight affair as both sides probed for the opener. Olly Saunders donned the gloves for the first half and pulled off some fine saves and blocks as the first quarter ended 0 0.
Sam Winters and Tom Yeoman drove the Hurricanes forward from the centre of midfield in the second quarter but there was nothing they could do to prevent the Rangers going 1 0 up after a well put together move.
Saunders was then man handled and badly unsighted as the hosts scored from a free kick to leave the visitors with a mountain to climb. Nicolai Bruun-Andersen almost hit back immediately but his well struck shot just flashed wide as the Hurricanes went in 2 0 down at half time.
Striker Tom Atkinson was working away tirelessly up front and was running the channels well to create the chances for the visitors but they just could not find the opening their creative play deserved. He was well supported by Joe Turner who was proving a real dynamo in midfield with his tireless running, tough tackling and sharp attacking play.
However, just as the Hurricanes were getting back into the game a harshly awarded free kick also went in to give the score a lop-sided look.
This knocked the stuffing out of the visitors and they conceded again late on as they went down 4 0 in their heaviest defeat of the season.
Managers Turner and Atkinson were said to be very pleased with the never say die attitude of all the players against a very strong side.
