During its 146 year history Henley Town Football Club has had many ups and downs when it has come close to folding but with the help of the local community the club survived. After last year’s euphoria, when the club won the Reading Senior Cup at the Madejski Stadium and was promoted to the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division it has hit bad times again.
Unfortunately the club couldn’t compete with the semi professional clubs in the Premier Division, who pay large sums of money to their players, and were demoted back to Division One East for the 2017-18 season.
To play in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division the club had to improve the facilities at the Triangle ground to FA level 5 standards. The Club received various grants to help with the project but still had to use a lot of its own money which has put the club in a serious financial position and brought it close to having to fold. The Club is run by dedicated volunteers and exists mainly on fund raising and money from the clubhouse bar but this will not clear the debts.
Like it did in the early years the club are looking for help from the Local Community and Businesses to make donations to help keep the ‘Red Kites’ in existence. If you would like to help the Town’s senior football club stay alive please send your donation to the Club Treasurer Mr G. Biggs at 24 South View Avenue, Caversham, Reading RG4 5AD or pay it direct into the Clubs Nat West Bank Account Number 65210220 Sort Code: 60-10-35
