After another successful Henley Drama Festival last week, this Thursday (May 11) the Kenton Theatre presents the nationwide touring production of Far from the Madding Crowd.
Thomas Hardy’s classic tale of love, honour and betrayal is brought to life by Hotbuckle Production’s four-person cast, complete with live music. Their trademark humorous but moving style is familiar to anyone who saw their 2015 production of Jane Austen’s Persuasion at the Kenton.
Programming manager Tom Ryan told the Henley Herald: “We’re all looking forward to welcoming Hotbuckle back to their theatre – their adaptations manage to be faithful and innovative at the same time, and it is a great way of keeping the theme of top drama at the Kenton following last week’s drama festival.”
BBC Radio Shropshire called Far from the Madding Crowd “an exceptionally slick, beautifully acted and necessarily inventive evening … laugh-out-loud funny and yet still purveys the darkness of the classic tale with respectful authenticity”. Tickets are £13, concessions £11 available online at kentontheatre.co.uk or on 01491 575698 and in person Monday-Friday 11am-3pm.
