On the opening day of Henley Royal Regatta Courtiers Wealth Management who are based in Henley took rowing beyond the river with a “Mencap Row-a-thon” on Market Place, raising awareness and much needed funds for South Oxfordshire Mencap’s Meteor Club.
Hoping to raise £700, the Courtiers team set the challenge of rowing 74 miles (the driving distance from Courtiers’ Head Office on Hart St to their Witney office and back) on three rowing machines within seven hours.
With ambitious rowers and support from Ellis Knight Bespoke Recruitment, over 20 Courtiers employees exceeded the target distance, covering over 90 miles in just five hours and they raised £618.58.
Combined with several fundraising events held by Courtiers over the last 12 months, the Mencap Row-a-Thon contributed towards a grand total of £1,748.20 raised for Meteor Club, which Courtiers will present during a Meteor Club event in July.
Delighted with the support Courtiers has shown, Brian Connolly, Treasurer of Meteor Club said, “This is an extremely generous commitment from Courtiers. Meteor Club has over 50 members and this September we plan to take everybody to see Singin’ in the Rain at the Hexagon Theatre in Reading. The hard work from Courtiers will afford us that opportunity with a little extra spending money on top.”
“We all appreciate this very much. While affiliated to Royal Mencap, Meteor Club receives no direct funding so initiatives such as the Mencap Row-a-Thon are vital to ensure Meteor Club can continue to provide the opportunities Adults with Learning Disabilities need to enjoy their lives more fully.”
