Planning Permission Granted for Fitness Centre at Phyllis Court Club

Today, 14 July 2017, Phyllis Court Club announces the completion of the refurbishment of the 4 tennis courts. This project was the precursor to the building of the Fitness Centre as the courts need to be moved to enable the site for the Fitness Centre to be available.

Chairman of Phyllis Court Patricia Christmas, said “This is an exciting time, we are pleased to have created these courts with the most advanced synthetic tennis surface on the market; Savanna. The surface will provide an excellent surface for our tennis playing Members to enjoy. We will be arranging the official opening later this year.”

Graham Owen, Club secretary is delighted to also confirm that SODC has approved the planning application for the Fitness Centre. Chairman of Phyllis Court Patricia Christmas, said “We have been anticipating this news for a while, and are very pleased that they have given an unconditional approval for us to proceed. The next steps are to finalise the finances, sign the design and build contractors and start the more visible work in the coming months. We hope to open the Fitness Centre in mid 2018. I would like to thank the team who have worked tirelessly in preparing the planning application and achieving this outcome.”

The Fitness Centre will include a 20m swimming pool, a saunarium, gym and exercise studio, with extensive changing facilities, for use by the rowing, canoe and kayak, tennis clubs in Phyllis Court.

The Planning Application was submitted on 27 February and following extensive consultation and approval from many departments in the Environmental Agency, and SODC (Conservation, Archaeological, Leisure, Drainage, Forestry, Health and Housing Services) and the Henley Town Council, the application was thoroughly reviewed.

Membership of Phyllis Court is increasing as local residents see the development progressing, and the Club will soon be setting a waiting list when they have reached their target membership numbers.

The Club is hosting an open day next Thursday, 21 July between 2.30pm and 8.30pm.  If you’d like to visit the Club and find our more about membership and the Fitness Centre, please register via the website at
