Sno & Sun Gear on Market Place which sells ski-wear and beach-wear is closing its doors today (Tuesday) after 8 years of trading from there.
Penny Badenoch who started the business 17 years ago from Greys Green Business Centre, near Rotherfield Greys has decided to retire. She said, “I’ve really enjoyed running the business. I’ve loved the camaraderie with all the customers and with the help of my staff I hope I’ve given all our customers a good service. It is sad that the business isn’t going to continue but is really hard on the high street these days with costs of business rates rising and the impact of the internet. It is really difficult to compete with the range offered online and many customers now treat shops as a showroom to try things on.”
Penny is looking forward to travelling over the next few months to visit friends in Portugal and New York, a trip to India with her husband and told us that as soon as the snow starts falling in the Alps she’ll be there. “It’s an end of an era but a start of new chapter to my life. We’ve enjoyed being part of the Henley community and thank you to all my loyal customers and staff,” added Penny.
There’s plenty of bargains to be had before the shop closes at 5.30pm today including swimsuits down from £70 to £25.
Market Place Mews development has started last week where there will be 10 new retail units built – more empty shops or have the developers signed up some big national chains?
