CAU Henley, the restaurant offering contemporary cuisine inspired by the vibrancy, colour and cultural diversity of Buenos Aires have introduced a range of exciting and inspired new menus, with a selection of hand-picked HERO dishes that celebrate the heart, soul and spirit of CAU’s heartland with a unique twist. These must-try HERO dishes will underpin a summer-long campaign named #BuenosHeroes available until 31 August.
Guests are encouraged to order at least one HERO dish when dining at CAU Henley to enable them to enter into the grand prize draw at the end of August to win a return trip for two to Buenos Aires. The mechanic is simple. All you’ve got to do is turn up, order a HERO dish, take a photo, upload to CAU Instagram and you could be on your way to BA! There’s also weekly spot prizes such as a meal for two, a round of cocktails and a bottle of CAU’s own brand Malbec wine.
There’s plenty of HERO dishes to choose from and we were delighted to be invited to try some of them. My guest and I kicked off by sharing the delicious crispy fried Shrimp Chicarron with a creamy spicy aji amarilio and saffron based sauce topped with fresh coriander. My guest chose the Twisted Fish & Chips to follow which came with Argentinian spicy tartar sauce, she said, “the fish was delicate and lighter than normal fish and chips and the quinoa crust meant it didn’t feel greasy” and after completely finishing the sweet potato fries that came with the fish she said they were “so delicious and moreish – completely addictive!” I chose the Ultimate Steak Sandwich – the steak was perfectly cooked and tender and the garnish of crispy onions, dill pickle, spicy mayo and melty Monterey Jack cheese complemented the beef without overpowering it.
I couldn’t decide on which dessert and after much deliberation between the Cornflake Sundae or the Dulce Volcano which our waitress recommended and intrigued me, I chose this. Arriving it really did look like a volcano and on delving into the light caramel sponge, a divine caramel sauce erupted from within and round the outside was an equally delicious amaretto cream custard topped with pecan nuts. No words can describe how good this was – just a shame I didn’t manage to finish it.
There’s also a colourful selection of thirst quenching South American-inspired cocktails including: The Grass is Greener – as lush as Las Pampas, this blend of Hendrick’s Gin, Midori, apple and citrus juice is shaken up with egg whites to make a velvety-smooth Martini. Sit back, relax and float away with the Bright Blue Skies – a lovingly made creation of vodka, triple sec, egg whites and chamomile tea. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
If you haven’t been to CAU Henley since the refurbishment and last time find the clouds design a little bit too bright you’ll love the new contemporary comfy furniture, wood decor and subtle lighting which are much more in keeping too with the building and surroundings.
