St Nicholas Church, Rotherfield Greys are going to be singing hymns all day long to raise much needed funds for the church on Saturday 16 September from 9am-5pm.
There will be a rota of local organists and hope that members of local choirs may come along during the day to help with the singing. The ever popular Andrea’s Café will be open to provide refreshments.
How can you help? Liz Hodgkin one of the organisers replied, “You can sponsor the event for any amount by completing the sponsorship form or you can request your favourite hymn and make a minimum donation of £10 per hymn. We will do our best to adhere to your request. All requests will be sung during the last 10 minutes of each hour. We have a target of £5,000 to help us maintain this historical building for future generations.”
St Nicholas Church is a very beautiful building over 800 years old. It has many historical areas of interest including the Knolly’s Chapel and a fine brass of Sir Robert de Grey. In recent years the added addition of the Elizabeth Room has meant that not only do the usual services take place each week it is open daily for many activities from chair caning to hand bell ringing.
