European Day of Languages at The Henley College
Did you know that there 200 languages spoken in Europe but only 23 of them are official languages of the European Union?
The European Day of Languages is celebrated on the 26 September and was established in order to celebrate this linguistic diversity. The Henley College students involved with French, Spanish and German came together on the day to find out more.
A fun quiz on Europe which had been put together by the Modern Foreign Language (MFL) teachers which proved to be very popular with students who used their smartphones to give their answers. All enjoyed a selection of French, Spanish and German cakes and sweets. Students and staff talked about their experiences of language learning and language use abroad and in this country. Against the backdrop of the impact of Brexit, they all agreed that knowledge of foreign languages remains as important now as it has ever been, giving a lot of opportunity to meet other people, make friends but also find work or study.
