It was a soaring start to the week for the Riverside Counselling team as they were presented with a fantastic donation on Monday. The local charity’s trustees met to receive a sizeable cheque for £11,175 from Nicki Williams-Gray, Lisa Silver and Tim Brassey following a music festival they held for the organisation this summer.
Nicki Williams-Gray, a trustee herself, has been working with Riverside for the past year and has been a lead figure in fundraising. She and her husband Cliff teamed up with fellow couple Lisa and Tim to devise one of the greatest parties seen in 2017. ‘G In The Dark’ was held on August 12th at the Williams-Gray’s home in Russell’s Water, and was nothing short of a roaring success. With five live music acts, an impressive marquee, a beer tent, a hog roast, and heaps more entertainment, it was certainly a night to remember.
A non-ticketed event, the music festival was open exclusively to those with invites, and required no payment for entry. “We didn’t want it to be ticketed,” explained Nicki, “so instead we asked for people to make a donation to a Virgin Money Giving page based on how much fun they had.” Given the staggering amount the festival raised, it seems that 400 attendees thoroughly enjoyed themselves! The final total received was £11,175, including a donation from Microsoft, for whom Tim Brassey works as an Accounts Technology Strategist.
Teresa Johnstone, Chair of the Riverside Counselling trustees, was tremendously grateful for the generous donation. “As a local charity we really need funds like this,” she commented. “We’re tremendously grateful.” The festival contributions will be used to help provide counselling for young people and adults in the Thames Valley. Although all Riverside counsellors offer their time and services on a voluntary basis, the money will help to cover running costs such as supervision staff and venue hire. The team are currently working hard to expand their services to meet a growing need for counselling in the local area.
With the help of the fantastic fundraising team, their desire to spread Riverside’s support may be soon be realised. Already, there is another event for the charity in the calendar, a Gatsby-themed ball which will be held at Danesfield House on Saturday (21st October). Looking further ahead, ‘G In The Dark’ is set to return for more musical festivities next summer. If either are a fraction as successful as the last event, the guests have a terrific party in store!
