The eighth Chiltern Centre charity golf day took place on Wednesday this week at Henley Golf Club.

Teams of four played in a Stableford competition (points are awarded on each hole according to how the player does against their own handicap). Afterwards the golfers enjoyed a lunch, raffle and a live auction.

Raffle prizes were kindly donated by Badgemore Golf Club, Caversham Heath Golf Club,  Dorata Hair Salon,  Henley Golf Club, Temptations, The Malsters Arms, The Spice Merchant , The Henley Clinic, Sammy Archer and Laurence Menswear.  Live auction prizes were Hotel du Vin a champagne afternoon tea, two pieces of art created by Lynda Fidler (a member of the Meteor Club) and a magnum of wine donated by Mark Evans at Towergate Insurance.

Chiltern Centre Chair of Trustees, Paul Barrett said, “This is the eighth year and it is gone from strength to strength.  We’ve had a record turnout of 72 players today.  It is a lovely example of people rallying around to support our local charity.  Whether it is golfers or Jeux D’Esprit shows – all the those pockets of money are what keeps us going.  We’re immensely grateful.”

Emma Lerche-Thomsen, Chiltern Centre Friends Membership Manager said, “We’ve got a very loyal following for this event.  Many players have played in all 8 events.  I’d like to thank Murial Quinsac and her company Coditex Electronics Ltd for sponsoring the event and helping with recruiting players and with the scoring and Jerry Luckett too who has brought 5 teams.  Jerry said, “We’ve had a great game.  The weather has held off and the course was lovely.  I think everyone has enjoyed playing with different people this year.”

Towergate Insurance in Henley entered another team this year after entering for the first time last year.  Neil D’Mellio from Towergate said, “We’ve had an excellent morning for a very worthy cause.  We did really well last year, I didn’t think we’ve done as well today and was really surprised we won.  The winning men’s team from Towergate were Neil, Michael Newton, Colin Matthews and David Pead.

The ladies winning team were Annette Bacon, Tracey Ellis, Melodie Kelsey and Janie Kebbell.  Christine Valentine and Miles Bentley won the ‘Near Pin 7th Hole’ competition and Jane Tavinor and Ben Postlethwaite made the longest drives.

The next event for the Chiltern Centre is the Three Tenors concert at the Kenton Theatre on Saturday 28 October.  To book tickets go to
