Henley Symphony Orchestra in their concert on Sunday at Reading Concert Hall will be playing an exciting mix of music. Beginning with Schubert’s overture Rosamunde , followed by Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante 6and completing with two Nocturnes and La Mer by Debussy.
For the wonderful concertante HSO is lucky to have violinist Laura Samuels and violist Scott Dickinson as soloists. Laura is the leader of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra where Scott is principal viola and soloist with them. Both are also prestigious chamber players currently with the renowned Nash ensemble.
La Mer is a deeply moving impressionistic evocation of the sea which Debussy composed in Eastbourne in 1905 and which he described as symphonic sketches. To tie in with this work Gavin Pretor-Pinney, founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society, author and science communicator, will give a talk before the concert. Internationally in demand as a speaker his book the Wavewatchers’ Companion won the 2011 Winton Prize for science books.
The concert is this Sunday 12th November at 4.00pm and the talk begins at 3.15pm.
