A new contemporary, modern and relaxed dining offering has recently been launched at Phyllis Court Club with the opening of The Connaught Lounge for members to enjoy this Autumn.
The Connaught Lounge sees the Club’s Dining Room transformed in the middle of the week (Tuesdays to Thursdays) with a cosy and candle lit environment and a menu that includes sharing plates, sliders selection and “from the grill” options. Subtle background live music adds to the ambience on a Thursday evening too.
Head Chef, Carl Jackman who joined the Club in March this year is now putting his stamp on the food with a new twist of flavours using local produce to create great tasting menus.
The Club’s Commercial Director, Caroline O’Connor said, “After the incredibly successful al fresco dining initiative in the Riverside Pavilion which finished in September, it made sense to bring another relaxed dining experience inside for the Autumn/Winter seasons.”
At the Henley Herald we were delighted to be invited to sample The Connaught Lounge. The new menu includes salt and pepper whitebait with cornichon and shallot dressing and moules marinières with crusty bread to start with. One of our party enjoyed the perfectly seasoned and crisp whitebait which was superbly presented in its own little frying basket with the delicious dressing on the side.
For mains, we enjoyed the ‘slider selection’ (three mini burgers: beef, soft shell crab and coconut and slow cooked pork), a chickpea & lemon falafel burger served in a black brioche with a mint, honey & yoghurt dressing and a Bowland Farm Fillet Steak with wild mushrooms and Bernaise sauce. All three mini burgers were delicious although the hands down favourite was the slow cooked pork! The sweet potato chips which accompanied the burgers were sublimely good too. Our guests, enjoyed the superb flavours of the falafel burger and the fillet steak which was “was spot on.”
Always one to save room for a pudding, I was delighted with velvety smooth Dark Chocolate Torte with white chocolate and clotted ice cream which had the surprise inclusion of popping candy inside – a great example of Chef Carl’s creative twists!
The Connaught Lounge is just one of the dining offerings at the Club. The Orangery with a Mediterranean feel, has menus that incorporate local produce and fresh flavours – it is the perfect place to spend breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Dining Room on a Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday lunch provides a formal dining experience with a menu that offers classic and stylish chic dishes, which are served with a carefully chosen wine match.
