Record Number Visit Toad Hall/Lions Santa’s Grotto

A record number of 1009 children visited Toad Hall’s Santa’s Grotto this last Christmas which was hosted by Henley Lions.

At this week’s Henley Lions meeting they were delighted to receive a cheque for £3030 from Toad Hall for hosting the grotto over four weekends in December.  Martyn Sheldrake from Toad Hall presented Lions President Wendy Franklin with the cheque.  Wendy then presented two cheques for £1500 to two local charities – one to Sarah Higgs from Footsteps Foundation and one to Nick Steel from The Chiltern Centre for Disabled Children.

John Moore from Henley Lions said, “Lynn Burgess from Toad Hall builds the grotto.  Her dedication in building it which takes her over 3 weeks is just fantastic. The comments from our visitors were that this had been the best ever winter wonderland scene with a wonderful atmosphere. They came from far and wide, lots attracted by previous good comments and publicity. The money raised from this project is, appropriately, always donated to children charities and this year we selected The Chiltern Centre in Henley and Footsteps Foundation, a centre in Dorchester to treat children with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders.”
