In difficult times on the high street for independents, Stocks in Bell Street were delighted to celebrate their first birthday yesterday (Tuesday).
Sandie Russell and her daughter-in-law, Lise Harrow opened the shop in the former Chiltern Watson opticians selling an amazing array of gifts, jewellery, homeware and clothes. The clothing range includes lovely machine washable cashmeres from some of the most special manufacturers in Europe like Purotatto in Italy, Duffy from New York and Cocoa and Wyse from UK and the jewellery is made Katie from Pomegranate who comes from Henley. We particularly loved the cute animal heads (pictured above).
To celebrate, customers were offered a glass of bubbly and a slice of birthday cake and the free prize draw which customers had been entering via Instagram and in store was drawn by the Mayor’s consort, Councillor David Eggleton. Prizes for the free draw were kindly donated by the shop’s suppliers and included cashmere scarf and socks, jewellery, a candle and the first prize of a Patricia Italian shirt which was won by @luxeinthecountry.
Sandie said, “We’re extremely happy with our first year and have had a wonderful start. We’ve had superb support from our customers and the depth of welcome has been fantastic. Our customers have said that we offer something different – individual gifts, great quality and a lovely shop. Our customers also give us ideas on what to stock. This relationship we particularly treasure as it is all part of the soul than an independent can bring to any town and we are passionate about doing this in Henley.”
Sandie and Lise are also keen to do a bit for the planet. Lise said, “Our metal water bottles have been one of our fastest selling lines recently as we are all trying so hard to do our bit for the planet and ban the plastics – we have always wrapped our gifts in tissue and paper carriers free of charge when purchasing a gift.”
Helen Barnett, Town Manager said, “I love this shop. Sandie and Lise have a really good retail concept and are working really hard to offer the residents and visitors of Henley something special.”
