Southern Plant & Tool Hire are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year and are delighted to be joining the group of Henley Herald community focused organisations to sponsor the schools news section.
Started in 1988 by Simon Gale from very small beginnings – a shed and site hut on Station Road with a small number of tools to hire and five employees, Reg Harris still being one of them, it has grown steadily over the years. Today, the company has a purpose built unit at Centenary Business Park on Station Road, employing 27 members of staff and hiring out hundreds of different pieces of equipment to DIY, Trade and Commercial customers.
Vincent Rose, Commercial Director, in his 26th year and Murray Gale, General Manager, said, “We’re a family run business who like to focus on local customers and local work and believe that’s a big reason for our success. Many of our employees have been with us for a long time, which speaks for itself in showing that it’s a great place to work. We always try and hire local if we can. The senior staff who have been with us for years are now mentoring and training the new generation, making sure to pass down their wealth of knowledge and experience.”
Southern Plant have been long standing sponsors of Henley in Bloom, Henley Cricket, Rugby, Football, Golf and Bowls clubs. The team at the company also love to get involved in charity work too. Last year they entered a team for Tough Mudder in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support raising £2,221.40 and this year they have chosen the British Lung Foundation. Last Christmas they also ran a customer raffle and donated money to Crisis UK, British Heart Foundation and Action Against Cancer.
Southern Plant are members of the Construction Plant Association, Hire Association Europe and the Freight Transport Association as well as being Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme credited and Safehire industry standard approved.
“We are continually looking to expand and develop our business and we’re constantly investing in new leading brand, quality and reliable equipment. We pride ourselves on this along with being able to supply or source whatever equipment is required. We always make sure to listen to our customers’ needs and provide free local delivery.”
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the local businesses and customers who have supported us and would also like to thank our loyal, dedicated staff who have helped make us the successful business we are today. Here’s to the next 30!”
