Loulou Felix-Smith who works at Wig hair salon on Reading Road in Henley whilst she’s studying at West London University is organising a charity ball to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
Loulou said, “As a survivor of domestic abuse myself, I do not feel like the issue is spoken about enough and I would like to raise money to donate to the charity that helped me throughout my journey. The charity I am donating to is Berkshire Women’s Aid. They are a local charity that provide advice, support and refuge services to victims of domestic abuse. They also offer outreach services, early intervention, adult group work, children’s group work, a 24 hour helpline and resettlement.”
An Evening of Elegance is black tie event taking place on Saturday 30 June from 7.30pm at The Penta Hotel in Reading. Tickets are priced £60 and includes three course meal with wine. They are available to buy either by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, email subject ‘ticket’, with full names of all attendees or they are also on sale at Liz Felix Millinery, 23 Reading Road, Henley.
Emma-Jayne Taylor from Henley will be the compere for the evening which will include a guest speaker, silent auction, a selfie mirror provided by Snapshot Selfies and music provided by DJShock/ Danny Shockhp Sims.
Last year Berkshire Women’s Aid had to turn away 73 people looking for that place of safety. That means for every victim they took in to refuge they turned 3 people away. Calls to their helpline grew by 58% last year. Not only does Berkshire Women’s Aid offer services for women, they also offer support services specifically for children and men.
