Big Little Lies Author comes to Henley on UK Tour

The Australian author behind the TV sensation Big Little Lies will be coming to Henley this autumn as part of her first major UK tour, for a special Henley Literary Festival event at the River & Rowing Museum.

Liane Moriarty, whose 2014 novel became the hit TV series starring Reese Witherspoon and whose previous book The Husband’s Secret has sold over 2 million copies, will be in conversation on Saturday 13 October at 7pm, followed by a book signing. As well as her bestselling career to date, Liane will be discussing her latest novel Nine Perfect Strangers. With the film rights already snapped up by Nicole Kidman, the book follows nine strangers at a glamorous secluded retreat with a dark secret.

Programming director Tom Ryan told the Henley Herald: “We’re delighted to welcome such a popular author to Henley, and as a visitor from Australia we are thrilled to be able to show her the best of the town by having her speak at the wonderful River & Rowing Museum.”

New speakers have also been confirmed for existing Henley Literary Festival events: Daisy Goodwin, creator of ITV’s Victoria, has joined the London Library panel on October 3; Channel 4 News presenter Cathy Newman will be in conversation with Olympic legend Katherine Grainger on 7 October; and the Muddy Stilettos Literary Salon on 6 October will feature comedian Viv Groskop and Cosmopolitan editor Farrah Storr. As the Henley Herald reported earlier tis month, the team from the frank and funny BBC podcast You, Me & The Big C will appear at Phyllis Court Club at 1pm to discuss Deborah James’ book F*** You Cancer: How to face the big C, live your life and still be yourself.

The additional events come as the Festival enjoys its best start to ticket sales yet, with more than 12,500 tickets sold so far. From September 29 to October 7 over 100 talks, Q&As, performances and workshops for adults and children include Kevin Keegan, Ade Adepitan, Kate Mosse, Fearne Cotton and Terry Waite.
