Being a member of Over 60s Club in Henley has lots of benefits particularly at Christmas time with members being invited to lots of Christmas events.
Saturday afternoon was the annual Christmas Party, organised by member, Ann Eggleton. Members enjoyed an afternoon tea including trifle and cream cakes, bingo, a raffle and a visit by Father Christmas too with gifts for everyone. Entertainment was provided by musical trio, The Myrtle Tree.
Ann said, “I organise a few sales at the club each year which pay for the party. Delighted that the Mayor had time to come and visit and I’d like to thank Tesco in Henley for donations towards the tea and raffle prizes.”
Today (Monday) at the club, members were treated to a Christmas recital by Badgemore School choir.
The children sang Christmas carols and songs which included Away in Manager, Silent Night, Christmas Calypso, Frosty the Snowman and Jingle Bells and the audience were encouraged to sing along too.
Choir Leader Miss Burton and pupil Rose Perisce-Burrell sang the opening verse to Once in Royal David City beautifully. Afterwards Miss Burton said, “I was really pleased for the choir to be invited to sing today and I’m really pleased too how well the children sang. We practice every Friday afternoon. The children really enjoy singing and they are a lovely group to work with.”
Over 60s Club Member, Marlene Oliver said, “It was lovely to have the children come and sing. They were absolutely brilliant.”
Maureen Smith said, “Chair of the Over 60s Club Gill Dodds and I were at Badgemore School with Clean Air for Henley and Gill invited the school down to come and sing. We hope they come again and this grows into something more.”
