Angelic Voice of Elenor Lights Up St Mary’s at Gillotts Carol Service

The amazing angelic voice of student Elenor Vockins singing O Holy Night opened the Gillotts School Carol Concert on Wednesday evening at St Mary’s Church.  The audience were in awe of this young girl’s voice which just lit up the church.  The wonderful opening, adding perfectly to the Christmas atmosphere saw students parading down the aisle carrying candles during the end of Elenor’s performance.

The service was a Nine Lessons with Carols interspersed with great musical performances from the Chamber and Clarinet Group who accompanied the carols and played Trepak and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fair and Gillotts Voices who sang Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth and Walking in the Air.  The Nine Lessons were read and acted out brilliantly by Gillotts Drama students with Headteacher, Catharine Darnton reading the ninth lesson.

Reverend Jeremy Tayler, conducted the service said afterwards, “This is my first Gillotts carol service and I’m delighted to be part of this service with students who have such talent.”

Head of Music Frances David said, “The standard this year for our Carol Service was excellent. The students have really taken on board all the performance etiquette that we ask of them and it certainly paid off last night! We have some outstanding musicians and drama students and we are so very proud of how professional the students were. Their performances were almost completely flawless and we couldn’t have had a better more positive end to what has been a very busy term. In January we will set our sights on starting our rehearsals for the Spectacular in April and are very confident that our students will not let us down!”
