The Gift of Friendship at Christmas Day Lunch

The third year of community Christmas, run by Community Spirit and over 30 volunteers was once again a fantastic day for everyone that was involved and was held at the Christ Church Centre, courtesy of the Minister, Glen Millington.

Months of planning and fund raising all came together on Christmas Day to provide lunch and entertainment to over 75 people from the Henley and surrounding areas.

Manning UK Insurance, Costain, Lara & Ramsay Kamaran, Henley Care and J&J Racing all supported the event financially.  There was some amazing donations from Brakspear who have supported the every year with some fine ales, wines and drinks for the guests.  Lawlors Bakers, Tomalins, Shiplake Butchers, other local businesses and residents were all very kind again with generous donations for the raffle.

One of the guests Colin said, “this was the best Christmas I’ve ever had!”

Irenna Bailey from Community Spirit said, “It’s through these people that we can deliver such a wonderful day for our older generation that might have otherwise be alone on Christmas Day. Daisy Smith from So Very Events kicked off our day with her singers and the Mayor and his lovely wife dropped by to wish us all a Happy Christmas. We love it when Santa arrives with the volunteer children to hand out gifts to make our guests feel extra special, but our day gives more than just food and presents, we give the gift of friendship as once you have friends you are no longer lonely.”
