Sea Cadets Annual Presentation Evening

This annual event was very well attended to celebrate an excellent year at the unit where Juniors, Sea Cadets and Marine Cadets have all worked hard and represented the unit in district and area events and on sea voyages.

The prizes were awarded by the Mayor of Henley, Councillor Glen Lambert who complimented everyone at the unit and thanked all the staff volunteers.

Former Sea Cadet now Lieutenant David Vail was also present to present prizes.  James Maudlin who also a former cadet and is now Skipper on the New Orleans also attended the evening.  It was great to see these young adults supporting the unit and encouraging youngsters.

Officer in Charge Abigail Bollon gave her annual review saying how proud she was of everyone in the unit.  Several cadets had represented the unit at the annual Trafalgar Day parade.

This year the Mayor’s Cadet is OC –  Charlotte Searles.

Certificates of recognition for long service were presented to Committee Members who work very hard to support the unit – Phil Fletcher, Ian Morris and Sylvia McIvor. The unit are very grateful for all their hard work throughout the year.

Ella Howe was given a certificate for her long service.

Each cadet receiving a trophy would be given the trophy and those receiving the top three awards would be given funding to attend an external course.  What a wonderful opportunity.  Awards were given to

Coxwain of the year – Cadet 1st class Morgan

Wardroom Cup – Marine Cadet 2 Nichole Donohue

Junior Cadet – 1st class Cadet Poppy Gardiner

Marine Cadet of the year – Marine Cadet2 Natasha Lelliot

Cadet of the year – Cadet 1st Class Brooke Sumner

Attendance and turnout – Cadet 1st Class Brooke Sumner

Executive Officers Award – Junior Cadet 1st class Emma Powell

Mr John Grout CBE member of the youth committee at Henley Rotary presented Cadet of the year 1st class Brooke Sumner Unit with a cheque for £500 for which the unit are very grateful.

After the formal presentations the committee provided drinks and refreshments for everyone present.  The unit provides such great opportunities for youngsters both on and off the water.  They meet on a Monday and Friday evening.
