Chilterns Court Care Home Looking for Toys & Books for Pre-School Play Sessions

Studies and research now show that people living with dementia had a higher level of positive engagement when interacting with children.

The Chilterns Court Care Home, next to Townlands Memorial Hospital have therefore decided to invite parents with babies or pre-school children to the home for play sessions with the residents.  Before the sessions start, (planned for the first week of March), they are looking for brand new, complete and undamaged preloved toys suitable for up to 5 years old and a large toy box to store them in as well as books suitable for up to 5 years.  Toys that both the children and the residents can interact together would be great.

Parents with babies and pre-schoolers are invited to come on Mondays between 10.00-11.30am (planned start date 1 March) and lone parents to Saturday morning playgroups on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month planning to start on 9 March, again between 10.00-11.30am.

Hayley Rentall-Cripps, Activities Co-ordinator for Chilterns Court said, “We are hoping that this will help to close the Generation Gap as many residents are parents, grandparents and great-parents and some don’t see their grandchildren as they live too far away.  We’re hoping that this new initiative will involve the community and enrich the lives of all involved.

If you any toys or books, you’d like to donate please take them directly to the home.  If you are unsure of the suitability of your donations, please call Hayley on 01491 526900.
