Team Row Deers to Row from Oxford to Henley for Cancer Research

This summer, an incredible team of women hope to raise over £20,000 for Cancer Research UK, taking on an enormous personal challenge, raising money for a cause close to their hearts.

Team Row Deers (Diana Montgomery, Caroline Wilkinson, Lucy Montgomery, Jenna Samengo-Turner, Caroline Tellwright, Cathy Lovell, Debs Williams, Lucia Homer, Susie Newman, Louise Oxley, Ariane Koopman, Lizzie Christie-Miller and Catherine Yoxall) have set themselves the task of rowing from Oxford to Henley – a distance of 57 miles, over 3 days in June.

Describing themselves as approaching the ‘third trimester of life’, two of the team are recovering from brain and breast cancer, and the others are very far from their peak physical fitness!  None of the women in the three boats have rowed before.  They are rowing for fun, companionship and most importantly to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

The team will be setting off from Oxford on Thursday 20th June, arriving in Henley on Saturday 22nd June, having stopped in Dorchester and Pangbourne along the way.

Diana Christie-Miller, Team Row Deers:  “I am very proud to be part of Team Row Deers, and whilst daunted by the physical challenge, I am really excited by the prospect of the row this June.  As for so many people, I have been affected by cancer having lost friends and family to this terrible disease.  Cancer Research are doing incredible work to save the lives of millions, and I feel that we have a responsibility to get involved and support them. Please support Team Row Deers.”

Nick Johnson, Cancer Research UK’s local fundraising manager for the South East, said: “Team Row Deers are an absolute inspiration and we can’t thank them enough for their commitment to helping Cancer Research UK beat cancer sooner. We will be watching their progress, both during training and then on the water in June, and will be cheering them on from the river bank in June!”
