Final preparations are well on the way for this year’s Henley May Fayre taking place in Market Place on Bank Holiday Monday (6 May).
This year, the Fayre will have a circus theme and Bezerkaz Circus will be entertaining the crowds with stilt walkers, jugglers and running a workshop too for children to join in.
The Fayre will open at 12 noon with traditional may pole dancing by Henley’s Divas and Dudes Dance Academy and will then be followed by the fancy dress competition at 12.30. Children aged up to 11 are encouraged to dress up in circus themed costumes.
Entertainment will continue throughout the day with performances from the Rock Choir, Trinity School Drama Club, Irish Dancing from Cameron Burne, Rupert House Choir, Morris Dancers, D’rael our Henley Busker and local singer/song writer Daisy Willow.
At 3pm there will be a free Jackanory storytelling session in the Town Hall Council Chamber for children aged 4-8 with author and illustrator Caroline H Green reading from one of her fabulous ‘Oscar’ books. Caroline has written and illustrated many books about her dog Oscar and his adventures. They are based on her mischievous mutt, Oscar with the colouring taken from her other dog, Millie. Spaces are limited so if you would like to reserve a seat please email firstname.lastname@example.org
There will be lots of traditional fayre game stalls including a coconut shy, hook-a-duck plus face painting and food and drink stalls.
At 4.30pm the fiercely contended Tug of War competition will take place. Henley Fire Fighters, The Saracen’s pub and The Argyll pub teams will be hoping to beat last year’s winners The Rowbarge pub. Brakspear will be giving the winning team a £50 voucher to spend in one of their pubs to celebrate.
Organiser, Councillor Sarah Miller said, “We have a fabulous jam packed agenda for you this year plus will be raising much needed funds for the Henley Stroke Club.”
