The Little Angel was transformed with a new look in March this year with an interior blending antique, rustic chic with a modern flair and an eclectic mix of artwork with references to Henley’s rowing history.
An all-day dining menu, catering from brunch through to dinner is now available and we were delighted to be invited last Wednesday lunch time to try out some of the dishes on offer. We were pleasantly surprised that the pub was busy with the conservatory completely full giving a nice ambience to enjoy a mid-week lunch.
To start with my guest and I enjoyed the Sauteed Tiger Prawns which were plentiful and flavoursome and the vegan Isle of Wight Tomato Bruschetta which looked large for a starter but had a much lighter feel to it and the feta cheese tasted like real cheese.
For mains we chose The Little Angel salad with baby spinach, candied pecans, vegan feta, quinoa, avocado, strawberries, carrot dressed with lime vinaigrette. The salad was a really good size with a generous portion of avocado making it filling. My guest commented “It was a very refreshing summer salad, with a lovely combination of sweet (from the strawberries and candid pecan) and savoury. My choice for mains was the Chicken Milanese with rocket salad topped with Parmesan and balsamic vinaigrette and I swapped the new potatoes for fries. The chicken was moist and the breadcrumb coating with lemon was crisp and light. The fries were crisp and the rocket salad complemented the dish perfectly.
If you’ve read one of my food reviews before you’ll know that I have a sweet tooth and my favourite course of a meal is the pudding if I can fit one in. The Little Angel Choux Buns didn’t disappoint. They were crisp and light, well filled with delicious creme patisserie, topped with dark chocolate and a sublime Belgium chocolate fudge sauce on the side. Pure heaven!
Whilst dining, we overheard another two ladies who were discussing their meal which we think just summed it up, “freshly cooked, good quality food.”
