A new clothing swap event to support and raise awareness of slow and sustainable fashion is being held at the The Three Tuns pub on Thursday 8th August at 7pm.
The idea for the new event is Gemma Birch she said, “The event is in support of and to raise awareness of slow and sustainable fashion, encouraging people to buy less, recycle, upcycle, swap, charity or vintage buy – anything but support fast fashion. The fashion industry contributes around 10% to the overall CO2 emissions (aviation is 2.5%) and so it is a huge polluter. This event is to encourage people to make small changes at a personal level and generally raise awareness of the impact of all those ASOS, Primark and fast- fashion purchases!”
The event is £5 entry to include a glass of Prosecco and the balance going to charity. Everyone is invited to bring 5 fashion items with them (clothes, shoes, bags, hats, jewellery) all in good condition and they can ‘swap’ them for 5 others that they find on the night. We will also have an image consultant there to provide people with tips on how to ‘shop their own wardrobes’ and try new styles and colours.
Any monies raised will go to Smartworks Reading to support the fantastic work they do in empowering women back into the work force. Any suiting/work clothes donations will also be donated to them.
This first event is a ladies fashion only event, but Gemma plans to do a men’s and also a homewares one.
The Three Tuns are running a special promotion of buy two main meals and get a bottle of wine free.
