Henley Youth Festival to Make Waves in 2020

The Henley Youth Festival is embarking on an exciting Oceans adventure next March (7-15 March 2020). The Oceans theme for the nine-day festival has been inspired by David Attenborough’s Blue Planet.

The 27th festival will be packed with activities, events and school workshops with art, music, performance, educational and sporting activities for all young people aged between 4-18, either at school or living in Henley and its surrounding area.

Suzanne Yeates, HYF Trustee, explained, “Oceans is broad enough to spark all imaginations. Inspiration can be taken from nature or ecological concerns as well as the arts, music science and literature. We were particularly motivated by the impact of single use plastics on marine life as local artist Emily Cooling cleverly illustrated with a giant jellyfish made from waste packaging as part of a community art project for our pop-up event on Henley Festival Family Sunday.”

Favourite HYF events will be returning – HYF Run, Gig Night and the Junior Proms at Rupert House School are back. Performances will be on at the Kenton Theatre and there will be numerous workshops running in local schools, as well as the art, film, photography and writing competitions.

As the 2020 Henley Youth Festival’s programme nears completion there are some exciting changes to note. The festival will be at the Kenton Theatre on New Street on 13 & 14 March with a new format for its music, dance and variety performances. Full details will be available when the HYF launches to all schools in Henley in January.

HYF 2020 is hoping to see events supported across the generations once again with involvement from The Arts Society Henley and students from Henley College running storytelling workshops for younger children or compering the shows at the Kenton Theatre. There are many opportunities for young people to get involved in the running of the festival and several exciting new workshops from local providers.

The Henley Youth Festival urgently needs new volunteers to man the decks and fill key roles steering the festival. To find out more about HYF’s volunteering opportunities please email hyfinfo@gmail.com
