One of the Living Advent Calendar favourites, Pure Fluke bowled the crowd over on Saturday night with their upbeat and fun performance in the Cricket Club pavilion for night 14.
Playing for the first time at this venue, the band formed in 2014 as a splinter group of the Fabulous Miss Sam Brown’s ‘International Ukulele Club of Sonning Common’ were delighted to have Sam join them on base as a special guest. Some of the audience might have had a hint that Pure Fluke were performing on Saturday night after front man, Dave Pinder gave a few hints at the Living Advent Calendar launch event at the Kenton in November.
The band opened their set with Black Horse & The Cherry Tree by KT Tunstall. The songs that followed were a mixture of new and old classics including Upside Down by Paloma Faith, Paint in Black by the Stones and Elton John’s Rocketman. Their finale was Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker.
Lawlor’s Bakers were sponsoring the evening and were selling lots of delicious festive cakes and biscuits. The evening’s raffle was raising money for the Wyfold Riding for Disabled Centre.
Richard Rodway, Organiser of the LAC said, “We’re happy to put on the event since ultimately we enjoy the event so much. Pure Fluke are one of my personal favourites, and so I am delighted and proud that they are prepared to give up their time to get involved so enthusiastically. It’s testimony to the quality of the event, and how established, well received and enjoyable it now is I think.”
“The event is doing so well this year, with people sharing their time, spirit and generosity more than ever. After 14 nights now, we are nearly 40% up on where we were at the same stage in our previous record year of 2017, which is quite staggering. We are well on course to obliterate that year’s record total and set a new high, which will be fantastic reward for everyone’s efforts.”
