HoT WI Taste-Test Xmas Puds With Phillip Schofield

HoT WI, Henley-on-Thames Women’s Institute, was featured in the popular prime time ITV show, How to Spend It Well at Christmas with Phillip Schofield this week. The series aimed to guide viewers into taking a savvy approach to spending at Christmas with the help of celebrity guests, experts, and members of the public.

Late September this year the production team at RDF television approached HoT WI via Facebook to taste-test Christmas puddings for the December show. It is well known that the members of the WI are keen foodies. RDF had a brief to locate fun and chatty WI women to take part in the show, and they thought HoT WI would fit the bill perfectly.

RDF also invited students from Henley College to take part so that the taste-testing would be balanced between the experienced and the novice.

HoT WI committee member, Deborah Artherton, took up on the task of co-ordinating the filming in Henley. 19-year-old Georgina Agar, a media graduate and a HoT WI member made an audition video of the group for ITV, which clearly demonstrated that the group is a fun-loving bunch who knows their puddings.

Deborah said, “Phillip Schofield and HoT WI members were engaged in banter throughout the many hours of filming and it was an enjoyable experience. My perfect Christmas pudding would be a boozy one that is rich with plenty of fruits, it was interesting to learn about the range retailers offered.”

And the winner? Best buy, according to your diligent Henley team was Lidl’s Deluxe Luxury 24 Month Matured Christmas Pudding.

HoT WI meets on the third Friday of the month at 7:30pm in Sacred Heart Church Hall, except in December. All Henley women are welcome! If you would like to find out more, please email hotwi2017@hotmail.com.
