Henley Dragon Boat Racing team are isolating like everyone else but are still training during lock down and having fun with creative ideas to keep their mental strength up.
Lubna Hameed said, “Our family of dragons are still training together, we’re just doing it virtually and because we like a bit of healthy competition we’re using Strava to communicate our results to one another, comparing scores and holding each other to account!”
Even though they are not on the water, some of them are doing the standard running, walking, cycling and circuit training but others are using their imagination and getting creative. Lubna added, “Being in a team sport, it is not just about your physical ability, it’s about your mental strength too so some suggestions have been to sit in a bath tub with a paddle! Why not? Members are posting their training ideas on a WhatsApp group.” Above is Clive who celebrated his 61st birthday yesterday with a training session in the bath.
Lubna’s advice is “Use this time to boost each other, help each other, appreciate one another and get creative, we are!!”
Henley Dragons have a new website www.henleydragons.com. They’ll be back out on the river just as soon as they can and would welcome you with open arms or maybe air hugs, if social distancing is still in play if you’d like to join them!
They’ve challenged our readers with a competition – post your photo on the Henley Dragons Facebook page showing how you’ve recreated your usual exercise routine at home! The funnier the better! The photo with the most likes gets a free session on a dragon boat when they’re back on the water!
