Local members of the environmental movement Extinction Rebellion (XR) are planning a peaceful, socially-distanced demonstration on 25 June between 6.00-7.00pm (new time) in Market Place to press local MP John Howell and the Government for a green Covid-19 recovery plan as part of a nationwide day of action.
On 25 June the Committee on Climate Change will publish its 2020 Progress Report to Parliament. This reports says the UK are failing to in their commitments to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
XR Henley members believe that the current target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 is too late and could lead to the death of millions, and will call on John Howell to “show leadership, act decisively and not to let the lessons learned from the current COVID-19 crisis go to waste.”
