After many months of virtual events, members of Phyllis Court Club were treated to an outdoor cinema evening showing the popular film Mamma Mia on Saturday evening. This was the first time the Club had hosted a drive-in movie in its history and it proved popular. The soundtrack packed with popular Abba songs got the audience dancing and singing along from the start with Honey Honey.
Phyllis Court Club, like many other hospitality businesses are looking at different ideas and ways of putting on events now that lockdown measures are easing but ensuring that social distancing is kept in place.
Chris Hogan, CEO said, “It was fantastic to see members and their guests enjoying our first outdoor event since the lockdown. We are already planning another drive in cinema and we will continue to think creatively to design safe events for our Members and their guests.”
Using the beautiful riverside location, the big screen was erected on the Paddock next to the Fitness Centre and members watched the film from or next to their cars with the soundtrack provided on a mobile speaker given to each car owner.
It was the perfect weather for the event, which saw members and their guests enjoying picnics or take away meals from the Clubhouse before the film started.
Mamma Mia set on a colourful Greek island stars Donna (Meryl Streep), an independent hotelier in the Greek islands who is preparing for her daughter, Sophie’s wedding with the help of two old friends. Meanwhile, Sophie discovers that any one of three men (Piers Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgård) could be her father. She invites all three to the wedding without telling her mother, Donna, in the hope of meeting her real father and having him escort her down the aisle on her big day.
Member Sarah Roberts said, “After 20 weeks in lockdown due to Millie (my daughter) being shielded, it was a wonderful way to meet up with friends and family in a Covid safe environment, with the most stunning ambience and backdrop, watching one of the all time “feel good” movies. The food was delicious, wine was flowing and a lovely time was had by all generations. I hope they show number 2 next!”
Phyllis Court will be hosting another drive in cinema for members and their guests in September.
