Beautiful landscapes are available to buy from Henley Fine Art Gallery in Market Place which opened its doors last month.
Henley Mayor, Councillor Ken Arlett attended the official opening on Sunday and gave his best wishes to new owner Jennie Stuart-Smith. This is Jennie’s second gallery, in addition to Barnes Fine Art Gallery in London which she opened in October last year. Jennie was joined by friends and family and her sweet companion Pip the dog. The gallery represents over 20 different artists.
Jennie said, “Since opening, we are busy all day, every day. There’s been a huge amount of interest. I think it’s going to be great. We’ve found our happy home here in Henley. We’re pleased to join the other galleries here in Henley offering something different. I think the more galleries the better. It’s also lovely for the community to have an every changing interest for people to look at especially during lock down. In Barnes we changed our window every day.”
Jennie told us people are buying art because they haven’t spent on their credit cards or gone on holiday. Talking about the price of art, Jennie commented said, “Paying the right price for a piece of art is important though. The benefit of the internet is that we can check that the artist isn’t putting too high a price tag on their pieces. It is probably why galleries are the the last things on the high street as the artists get half of the price tag. Most artists still need galleries as they are not sales people. Our art is fresh, modern with a traditional skill. We have people saying to us that they can see why the price tag is what it is because of the artist who has sat for maybe 3 months painting it.”
Henley Mayor was pleased to see another shop open in Henley. He said, “I think you would be surprised that there are lot of shops under offer in Henley. Henley has always been good place to open. On Friday the town was absolutely buzzing with the car parks full. What I like about this, is art that I can see an artist has painted in detail. I am glad to come in here and see things I like although I don’t think I have any wall space left.”
Jennie replied, “I’m sure we can find a space. We sell a lot of landscapes and we believe these open up a lot of space when we’re living in smaller, darker spaces. The bigger you go the more you will open up your space.”
Henley’s Town Centre Manager, Helen Barnett said, “In this incredibly challenging time for retail and business. We are delighted that Henley is still attracting a fine selection of retail, hospitality and other create uses to our high street. The face of retail is changing and Henley is moving with the time; we need to offer our visitors and residents an experience. Jennie has promised to brighten every passing eye, and day, with something gorgeous and ever changing to look at. We wish her every success in her new venture.”
The gallery is offering a 25% discount on their framing service for their opening.
The shop will be open Tuesdays 10-5pm Wednedays 10-8pm, Saturday 10-5pm and Sunday 11-4pm
