Army Cadets Achieve Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Certificates

As many people know, the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award is one of many youth award programmes founded in the United Kingdom by HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. The award recognises individual’s dedication for completing a series of self-improvement exercises.

The Army Cadet Force (ACF) has a team of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers who encourage cadets to complete their award alongside their standard ACF training. Due to COVID-19 putting a temporary halt to face-to-face training, this has not deterred the cadets for putting in extra effort to their DofE progression.

Henley Detachment has achieved 27 section passes for the award, made up of 10 volunteering, eight skill and nine physical. DofE has also introduced a “Certificate of Achievement 2020” this is where an individual has completed all three sections but is unable to complete the expedition due to current circumstances. 8 cadets from Henley have achieve this achievement.

The outstanding commitment has pushed them even further into the award and will be making a great edition to the Cadet’s CVs when they later want to apply for a job.

Detachment Commander, Adult Under Officer Mel Haynes said “I would like to congratulate all the cadets who have continued to work hard towards their DofE award, especially as we have had no face-to-face training. I look forward to seeing all of them complete their expedition & award in the near future.”

Many young people are missing out on the challenges and adventures that could transform their lives but joining the Army Cadets can change that. We welcome boys and girls (aged over 12 and in at least year eight at school) of all abilities and backgrounds. When they join us we encourage them to learn more, do more and try more. We inspire them to aim high and pursue their goals, no matter what they aim to do in life.

Henley Detachment is located on Friday Street and parades every Wednesday evening from 1900hrs to 2130hrs. We would love for new Cadets and Adult Volunteers to visit us and experience something new, whether that is our virtual parade night or once we re-open for face-to-face training.  For any Henley Detachment enquires please email AUO Mel Haynes, 3360hayne@armymail.mod.uk
