Children’s Faces Lit Up at Bonfire Lunch

Rupert House children and staff were treated to a warming bonfire themed lunch last Thursday (5th November). The catering team, led by Emilia, decorated the serving areas with autumnal leaves, pumpkins, winter veg, sparkling tinsel fireworks and a little bonfire to give the pupils an alternative bonfire night experience.

Everyone enjoyed a menu of pork or Quorn bangers and mash served with mixed vegetables and buttery mash with onion gravy. The toffee apple muffins with firework sprinkles were a big hit for dessert!

Emilia said ‘With another lockdown starting today and local bonfire night events being cancelled, we wanted to bring bonfire night to the children. In times like these, it is important to provide children with as much normality as possible, and to continue to celebrate and participate in celebratory events wherever we can. I really enjoy co- ordinating the themed lunches we do at Rupert House and the children look forward to them too.’

The children’s faces lit up as they entered the school hall at lunchtime. One pupil’s parent commented “Clarissa said the school sausages are the best. Thank you!” and another pupil claimed it was “the best mashed potato ever!”
