This week Henley Lions launched their 2020 appeal for funds to assist those in Henley and surrounding villages who find themselves in Fuel Poverty over the winter. The Lions are concerned that this year, more than any other, with lockdowns and people having to stay indoors bills for heating, lighting and cooking are increasing. At the same time, some people are suffering as a result of furlough and redundancies plus problems with mental health exacerbated by this year’s events.
Lions are looking for help from Henley Herald readers to support this appeal. Ian Tritton, Chair of Lions Community Services, said “The people of Henley have been wonderfully generous in helping others in the past and we hope we can call on them again this year. Any donation, however small, can help make a difference. If you, like me, receive the government’s Winter Fuel Payment perhaps you could see your way to donating some or all of this to help those who are struggling to stay warm. Over the past few years many families in the area have been able to get through difficult times with help from this fund when they were unable to pay their fuel bills”
The Lions ask if you know someone in need you encourage them to talk to Citizens Advice Henley who identify qualifying recipients for help so that the Lions fund can then make payments direct to the recipient’s fuel supplier. Citizens Advice Henley and NOMAD can also provide general help and guidance to ensure people are receiving benefits due to them and give assistance in managing debt.
Donations can be made online via www.henleylions.org.uk – click on “Donate” and identify your donation as “Winter Fuel Project”. To get information on how to pay by cheque or bank transfer please email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 0345 833 7387.
