Double Winning Weekend for Henley Bowls Club
On 31st July, Henley continued their winning run in the Oddfellows Triples League when visiting Reading in a four mixed triples match, gaining 11.5 points to Reading’s 2.5.
Norman Daniells with Simon Hatcher and Jeanie Davies were level 8 all after eight ends then steadily pulled away to win 22-10. Barrie Davies with David Burdon and Joan Edwards were 9 down after six ends, pulled back to 2 down after ten ends, but dropped a 4 and 5 to go down 16-23. Gill Robins with Andy Scott and Steve Sullivan were level 8 all after seven ends, but fell away to 8 down after eleven ends, then picked up to lead, for the first time, by 2 after sixteen ends eventually winning 21-19. Dave Wilson with Colin Ward and Angelika Crisa were always in control and raced to a convincing winning margin of 21-9.
On 1st August, Henley visited Farley Hill in a four triples mixed friendly, winning on three of the four rinks, by the score 61-50.
Angie Isaac with Kevin Browne and John Wilkinson were 6 up after six ends, dropped 5 on the next four ends to be just 1 up. Leading 9-8 after thirteen ends they then won the last five ends to finish 19-8. Andy Scott with Nigel Bridges and Lynn Sayer were level after four ends, then pulled ahead to 12-4 after ten ends, dropped to 12-8 after thirteen ends, then ran out winners 18-10. Peter Borsberry with Steve Isaac and John Cross were leading by 3 after nine ends, level pegging after fifteen ends, then ran out winners 18-16. Barrie Davies with Keith Lawrance and Shaun Anderson were only 2 down after thirteen ends but didn’t score on the last five ends and went down 6-16.
