On Wednesday (12 January) Henley Hawks 2 started the second half of the season with a bang against Dean Dreamers in Division 4 of the Maidenhead Netball League.
It was evident from the whistle the Hawks were in brilliant form; immediately intercepting the ball and moving swiftly down the court. Lauren Maddock (GS) appeared effortless; scoring almost every opportunity presented to her with Belle Tebutt (GA) expertly picking up rebounds ensuring The Hawks were leading 9 – 2 going into the second quarter.
The momentum continued with Nikki Stubbs (WA) and Sarah Filby (WD) working fast and hard down the wings to keep the ball moving rapidly up to the shooters. The Hawks were on fire in the scoring circle providing the team with an impressive lead of 16 – 7 at half time.
Sophie Surman (C) controlled the game throughout and kept up the pressure in the second half; making numerous interceptions leading to some great creative play. The Hawks were relentless in attack and furthered their lead by another 12 goals in the third quarter. The score now 28 – 10 to Henley Hawks.
The team kept battling through the fourth quarter with the determined defence of Sarah Kenyon (GK) and Juliet Machan (GD) holding strong and forcing errors for the opposition. Henley Hawks 2 were unstoppable resulting in a final score of 29 – 13.
A fantastic victory for the team and an exciting start to the year for this emerging team.
