Henley Story of World Book Day Celebrations

Stories were being told, dressing up in characters and books were being enjoyed on World Book Day in schools in Henley yesterday and today.

The children enjoyed activities and special assemblies throughout the day.  At St Mary’s they had a poetry slam and a ‘Masked Reader’.  Rupert House held a book swap, book scavenger hunts and KS1 children enjoyed a virtual talk from Gruffalo illustrator, Axel Scheffler.  Reception Teacher, Avery Penna at Sacred Heart School got some time to spend some time with the big kids reading a chapter from “Who Let the Gods Out” by Maz Evans and one from “Bud, Not Buddy” by Christopher Paul Curtis.

Badgemore TA in Elm Class, Diana Brooks said, “We’re having great fun today. The children obviously love reading and World Book Day is about enjoying books and have an opportunity to express themselves through their favourite characters or just bringing their favourite book from home.  It’s great thing to encourage children to read.”
