Rotary Webinar – Henley Women’s Regatta

17 May 2022
6.30-7.30pm

Attention rowing fans! It’s time for Henley-on-Thames to host one of the world’s most prestigious regattas.

No, not that one, We are talking about the Henley Women’s Regatta, the UK’s premier rowing for event for women and one of less than a handful of women-only such meets in the world.

The regatta — which takes place on June 17 to 19 — brings in some 1,500 rowers from across the world, including Britain, Ireland, Australia, the United States, Canada, Germany and Switzerland.

Miriam Luke, the regatta’s deputy chair and a silver medallist for Team GB at the 2000 Olympics, will speak about the event and the rise of women’s rowing at a May 17 free public webinar.

It is hosted by the Rotary Club of Henley-on-Thames. Register at https://miriamluke.eventbrite.co.uk

In the early 1960s, there were fewer than a thousand serious oarswomen in England. No more: British Rowing estimates women now account for more than 45 percent of the country’s active registered rowers.

The Henley Women’s Regatta shows why.
