Leander Club are through to at least five finals in the 2022 Henley Royal Regatta.
Today (Saturday) Leander rowers competed in 10 semi-finals. The winning crews were Annie Campbell-Orde & Sophia Heath in the Hambleden Pairs beating L Ahyi & F. Van Westreenen, from Univ. of California, USA VERDICT by 3 ¾ lengths. In the Wargrave Challenge (W8+) Leander Club won against Vesta R.C. in 2 ¼ lengths. In the Prince of Wales (M4x) – Leander Club beat London RC by 3 ½ lengths and the composite Oxford Brookes University & Leander Club beat California RC & Penn Ath. Club R.A., USA by ¾ length. In the Remenham (W8+) the composite Leander & Imperial College crew beat Princeton T.C. & ARION by 2/3 length.
The M4x (Leader & Tideway Scullers lost to the Chinese National Rowing Team in the Queen Mother Cup in a close race by ½ length. In the Men’s Four, University of Washington, USA beat Leander and Thames RC by 1 length and in the Women’s Four they were beaten by Danmarks Rocenter, Denmark by 3 ¾ lengths. In the Men’s Pair, Harry Glenister & Joshua Bugajski, Leander Club & Oxford Brookes University lost to Cambridge University by 1 3/4 lengths.
Henley RC’s last crew standing, the W8+ in the Prince Philip were beaten by Winter Park Crew, USA (qualifiers) in a close race with the American crew getting a white flag three times from the umpire to get back on their side but at the finish line they won by ½ length.
Leander could still get through to the Thames (Club M8+) final against Thames R.C. ‘A’ at 7.30pm. In the last semi-final of the day at 7.40pm, favourites in the Jubilee (JW4x) Shiplake College hope to beat Claire’s Court School.
