New Street Roadworks Starts Tomorrow for 4 Weeks
Carriageway maintenance work is is due to start on New Street for up to 4 weeks tomorrow (Tuesday 5 July).
The works will include replacing damaged kerbs and ironwork, drainage improvements, resurfacing of the existing carriageway and the replacement of road markings.
Oxfordshire County Council have advised that the work will be carried out in two phases:
Phase 1: Tuesday 5 July to Monday 18 July 0730 to 1630 – lane closures and localised barriers to enable preparation work to be carried out. Some on street parking will be need to be suspended during this period but this will be limited to areas where work is required.
Phase 2: Tuesday 19 July to Thursday 28 July 1900 to 0600 hours – full road closure to enable the resurfacing work to be carried out and replacement of road markings. A signed diversion route will be put in place during this period and all on street parking will be suspended.
To maintain access to side roads and off-street parking areas during the road closures (1900 to 0600 hours), the resurfacing work will be carried out in two sections and the one-way system will be suspended:
Tuesday 19 July to Thursday 21 July: Hart Street to Wharfe Lane – access to New Street will be via the Bell Street junction.
Friday 22 July to Wednesday 27 July: Bell Street to Wharfe Lane – access to New Street will be via the Hart Street junction (we are assuming this means you will be able to turn right at the bridge traffic lights and turn right into Riverside!)
New Street will be reopened to normal conditions when safe to do so outside of these periods.
