Phoebe Celebrates 21st Birthday With Head Shave for Sue Ryder
Phoebe Miller, celebrated her 21st birthday by braving the the shave to raise funds for Sue Ryder in memory of her aunt, Lisa Drummond, who received care from the national palliative, neurological and bereavement support charity before she died earlier this year from cancer.
“My aunty was such a lovely lady and the care she received from Sue Ryder, which meant that she could be comfortable in her last weeks and die peacefully, meant a lot to our family,” shared Phoebe. “I wanted to do this on my birthday to give back and say thank you to the charity that was there for her.”
The charity head shave took place at Phoebe’s home in Henley, where she was cheered on by 30 of her friends and family.
She said: “I didn’t shave my own head – I separated my hair off into sections and gave people the opportunity to bid to be the one who shaved that bit off!
“I’m going to donate all my hair to the Little Princess Trust charity, which provides real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer.”
To boost her fundraising in the lead up to the charity head shave Phoebe did a different hairstyle every day on TikTok, often taking requests from her followers. She also live streamed her head shave on Instagram, which was watched by over 150 people.
“It was a very emotional but enjoyable day, surrounded by my closest friends and family. I’d like to thank my mum Ali, dad Steve, brother Johnny and sister Lauren. I’d also like to thank my friends Anika Mayor, Rachael Cannon, Mia Brown, Nicola Hull. My Opa Richard, and all my cousins – Eddie, Michelle, Jack, Megan and Sam.
“I’m loving my new look – it’s very easy and I keep making jokes to my friends that I’m going to be late because I’ve got to ‘do my hair’! I’m not going to wear a wig as I want people who are losing their hair to feel OK and know it’s not something to feel ashamed about. I’m going to keep it short for a while and fully embrace it.”
Meghan Bentley, Community Fundraiser for Sue Ryder, said: “It’s so generous of Phoebe to mark her special birthday by raising vital funds to support our charity. We’re reliant on generous supporters like her donating and fundraising for us, so we can continue to provide the expert and compassionate care we are so well known for, and fill last days with love.”
