Quakers Picnic for Peace
Henley Quakers would like to invite everyone of all ages to join them for a friendship picnic on Wednesday 21 September at 3pm by the Peace Tree opposite the River and Rowing Museum in Mill Meadows (weather permitting).
On that same day, people all over the world will be marking International Day for Peace. Ruth Todd from Henley Quakers said, “We see the picnic as an opportunity for people to meet in friendship and peace, to talk to one another and maybe make new friends.” Please bring finger food to share and your own drink. You might also like to come with a chair or blanket. Everyone will be welcome.
Quakers believe that peace between nations is a priority for our times, and that peace comes when people sit down together and talk.
Peace making is a long term endeavour, which is not won by onslaught and destruction, but by a continuing process of bridge building. Every war is a tragedy and we do what we can to alleviate the suffering.
