Emphatic Win for Henley Bowls Against Maidenhead
On Tuesday 6 September, Henley entertained Maidenhead Town Bowls Club in a five mixed triples friendly match, winning on four of the five rinks 118-64.
Peter Borsberry with Martin Taylor and Peter Falle romped into a commanding lead after seven ends, allowed the visitors onto the scoresheet for a few ends, then pulled away to win convincingly 34-10. David Burdon with Keith Lawrance and Richard Kingston were under the hammer from the start, and way off the pace after eight ends, then found the green to pull back but still lost with the score 13-20. Kevin Currill with Jeanie Davies and Ramsay Adams were 3 up after three ends, fell away to be 10 down after nine ends, clawed their way back to to be level 19 all after seventeen ends, then picked up a three to run out winners 22-19. Barrie Davies with Kevin Browne and Maurice Hill raced to a commanding lead after ten ends eventually winning with the score 23-8. Andy Scott with Joan Edwards and John Wilkinson were fairly evenly matched throughout but then found the green to be well up after eleven ends and finished winners at 26-7.
On Wednesday 8 September, Henley travelled to Flackwell Heath Bowling Club only for the event to be cancelled as the rain continued to fall all afternoon. There were no matches at the weekend so the Club used to time to tidy up the flower beds and hedges and to start preparing for closing down the green at the end of September although there are still four more matches to be played.
