Shop Slate Roof Tile Luckily Doesn’t Hurt Anyone

After the recent heavy downpours, a reader has sent us the above photo of a slate which has come down from the roof above the old Liz Felix millinery hat shop on Reading Road.

A lady was seriously injured and ended up in hospital in February this year when Storm Eunice hit.  She was hit by flying roof debris from a house in Station Road.   The roof above Henley Wines on Reading Road was cordoned off and made safe by the fire service also at this time.

With more heavy rain and high winds expected again this Winter, we are publishing this to appeal to all house owners and landlords to check their roofs where there is a considerable amount of footfall of pedestrians below e.g. outside shops, along roads that parents walk to schools etc. that are close to the pavement.
