Fantastic Day for the Living Advent Calendar

The Living Advent Calendar was back with a bang last night with Nick Heywood, lead singer from Haircut 100 being the surprise act on the first night of the event after a 2 year absence.

Before Nick was revealed, LAC Organiser Richard Rodway said, “Thank you so much coming for out this evening.  The Living Advent Calendar is back!  We start here tonight and finish at St Mary’s on the 24th and in between we visit all sorts of picture postcard venues and some hidden gems and basically having a right old joyous knees-up along the way in aid of some good causes.  Before we go on tonight.  As we know it’s not been a great couple of years and why we’re keen to bring some festive cheer to us all but sadly in the last few months we have lost a massive part of the Living Advent Calendar team Carolyn Molyneux.  Carolyn who was permanent fixture in the gazebo and did a lot of things behind the scenes.  She was so looking forward to the return of the event this year and I hope that we can only do her proud.  As a little mark of respect I would like you to join me in a minutes round of applause in Carolyn’s honour.  The least we can do.”

Nick was accompanied by Adam Phillips and Anthony Clark on guitar and keyboard.  Before they started, Nick said, “I’m just warming my hands up and my wedding ring went flying!” (luckily it was found later amongst the cables and benches).

The set included Haircut 100 hits Love Plus One, Blue Hat for a Blue Day and of course Fantastic Day as well as Take That’s Situation. They finished with encore of Fantastic Day to the delight of the crowd.

Each evening the event will be raising money for local good causes through a raffle. Yesterday kicked off with the Henley Poppy Appeal.

The audience were treated to refreshments from the Mobile Bike Cafe who were sponsored by Kench & Co Accountants one of our sponsors.

Tonight (Friday) the Living Advent Calendar’s venue will be Thames Lodge on the Reading Road.
