Street Snooker Coming to Henley
Street Snooker comes to Henley for one day only next week. Staff at Playinnovation, the company responsible for designing this exciting new kick-wall game, will be on hand from 10am until 6pm on Tuesday 13 August at the Makins Recreation Ground, Greys Road to explain the Street Snooker rules and run “High Break” competitions for both kicking and throwing. Trophies will be presented to the winners with medals for the runners up in both categories.
The portable version of Street Snooker is being trialled at Makins as the feedback from those participating will better inform the Council in any future redevelopment plans for the recreation ground. They include whether to instal a permanent facility or not. Jeni Wood, Chair of the Town’s Recreation and Amenities Committee, made it quite clear that every person living at Henley is welcome to come and use the Street Snooker equipment on August 13th.
“The more people who play – the better idea we shall have of whether it would be a popular addition to the equipment we have in our recreation grounds – or not. Street Snooker is reputed to be great fun for all ages. The equipment is here for one day for us to try out so come and find out for yourself,” she said. Speaking on Tuesday night after Full Council had endorsed the committee’s unanimous recommendation, Mayor Stefan Gawrysiak said, “I am extremely grateful to Councillor David Nimmo-Smith for supporting this initiative and agreeing to fund 50% of the hire charge from the County Council’s Community Fund”. Team GB Handball Captain Bobby White will be present at next week’s family sports event which precedes the Summer BBQ Fun Day organised by Soha Housing from 4pm -7pm for the residents of Gainsborough.
Jackie Logan from Soha noted, “The Street Snooker is yet another reason to come along to this great event which is all about people getting to know their neighbours better and developing a positive sense of community.”
